Office of Overseas Study Statement
Bombings in London
July 8, 2005
Update. Our office has now confirmed the safety of all of the Indiana University
students currently studying in London.
July 7, 2005
The Office of Overseas Study is actively engaged in ensuring that all IU students in London
are safe, given the tragic bombings that took place in London this morning. The safety of IU
students is of the utmost importance to us.
We have ascertained that all students on London programs managed by Arcadia University, IES,
AIFS, AIU, American University, Institute for Study Abroad at Butler University, INSTEP and
Syracuse University are safe. We are proceeding to check with one additional program provider to
confirm the status of a single additional IU student in London. Indiana University currently
has 75 students in London this summer across nine programs.
London officials have confirmed multiple bombings in the Underground train system and on a bus,
with multiple casualties. All London Underground services and bus services within Central London were
suspended for most of the day. Most of London's railway stations re-opened by 5 p.m. London time.
Buses in central London also restarted, with limited service. The Underground network remains
closed with hopes of re-opening limited service on some lines later tonight and more extensive service
tomorrow.
We will continue to monitor the situation in London very closely with program providers in England.
Program staff abroad are providing guidance to IU students regarding safety and security
precautions.
Any additional information that is received will be posted here on this Web site.
