IU CONFERENCE AND WORKSHOP GRANTS

Guidelines

The Office of the Vice President for International Affairs offers grant opportunities for IU departments and faculty to conduct symposia, conferences, workshops, and roundtables at IU. These should bring people together to explore international topics in new ways or to discuss vigorous new directions in international research, or to explore scientific topics with international colleagues. The grants typically provide funding for travel to IU for conference participants, honoraria for speakers, and other conference expenses. They do NOT provide funding for meals, receptions, and other hospitality-related expenses. The conferences must have a stated international purpose and must be relevant to the department or to the faculty members’ teaching or research interests. It must be feasible for the planning and implementation of the conference to be completed within the requested budget.

Eligibility: Schools, departments or tenured and tenure-track faculty at any IU campus. NOTE: For IPFW faculty, only those faculty in IU academic mission departments who are or will be tenured by Indiana University are eligible.

Funding: Maximum $5,000 depending on the scope of the event, the number of international participants, and the impact on the campus.

Recommendation Criteria:

  • Quality of the proposed conference or workshop, including a clearly stated plan of operation
  • Stature of the invited speakers and participants
  • Relevance of the conference or workshop in terms of the applicant’s goals and how it contributes to the department's or school's objectives
  • Feasibility of the completion of the conference within the stated timeframe and budget
  • Anticipated outcomes, such as publications that might result, subsequent meetings, or new academic directions or initiatives
  • Extent of departmental or school support for the conference

NOTE: A report on the activities and expenditures of the grant activities will be required upon completion of the grant period.
