OVERSEAS STUDY PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT TRAVEL GRANTS

Guidelines

The Office of the Vice President for International Affairs offers grant opportunities for IU faculty members to develop new overseas study programs. These grants provide funding for faculty to explore the academic and logistical arrangements for prospective faculty-led IU study abroad programs.

Eligibility: Full-time academic appointee on any IU campus.
Deadline: November 1, February 2
Funding: Awards are a maximum of $3,000 to fund international travel costs and local room and board expenses, typically for up to one week abroad.

Recommendation Criteria:

  • Academic quality and feasibility of the program
  • Instructor's teaching role in the program
  • Extent of cultural activities in the program
  • Ways in which the program differs from existing overseas study programs
  • Administrative efficiency
  • Financial viability
  • Student health and safety.

Proposals must be for credit bearing programs abroad, with a minimum of 3 credits. Preference will be given to programs located outside of Western Europe and in disciplines under-represented by existing Overseas Study programs (e.g. physical or mathematical sciences, health sciences, environmental sciences, Informatics, etc.).

NOTE: A report about the program development visit will be required upon completion of the trip.
