In May of 2009, at the invitation of Yvette Alex-Assensoh, Dean of the Office of Women’s Affairs at IU-Bloomington, 17 representatives from several IU and Purdue campuses met in Bloomington to discuss our common goals and concerns regarding the advancement of women on our campuses and the development of more “whole person/family friendly” environments. We discussed ways of working together to advocate for various policy reforms, to increase awareness of these concerns in our communities and to partner in funding proposals. We were so enthused after the meeting that we determined to meet again soon to continue our discussion and to formulate some plans. At the suggestion of Professor Peg Brand, we named ourselves, “Inter-campus Coalition for the Advancement of Women (ICAW)”. At this stage, we are working on agenda setting for the 2009-2010 academic year, with meetings scheduled in Fall 2009 at IUPUI (hosted by Kathy Grove, Director of the IUPUI Women’s Center) and in Spring 2010 at Purdue (hosted by Catherine Pope, Director of the Women’s Resource Office at Purdue University). For additional information about ICAW, please contact Yvette Alex-Assensoh at yalex@indiana.edu.
On November 11, 2011 ICAW held the workshop Constructing Our Future: Exploring The Values, Strategic Processes and Change Mechanisms of Work-Life Policies.
