RAISING AWARENESS OF INTERACTIONS IN SEXUAL ENCOUNTERS

A group of peer-educators who go into the classroom and into the community to educate on issues of sexual assault, relationship violence, and gendered communication.

Raising Awareness of Interactions in Sexual Encounters (R.A.I.S.E.) is a group of peer-educators who go into the classroom and into the community to perform He Said… She Said, an interactive dialog on sexual assault, relationship violence, and gendered communication. R.A.I.S.E. participates in many campus events that address issues of sexual violence such as the Vagina Monologues, Take Back the Night, Stand Up and Be Counted, the Campus Health Fair and more. Additionally R.A.I.S.E. sponsors two yearly condom distributions during which members go to downtown bars and late night eateries and hand out free condoms in order to encourage students to think of consent as being part of a safe sexual encounter.

RAISE Programs:

  • "He Said... She Said" This program includes a skit performed by male and female peer educators depicting a sexual assault and how the assault is interpreted differently by the two characters. The presentation also includes discussions of consent, risk reducers, gendered communication, and victim support. He Said… She Said is often requested for performance by classes, the Greek community, and student organizations.
  • Custom Programs R.A.I.S.E. also works by request through the Office of Women’s Affairs and its associates to develop custom programs on a variety of topics. Such programs are offered on a limited basis.

  • -If you are interested in scheduling a presentation through R.A.I.S.E. please email R.A.I.S.E.@indiana.edu for more information. He Said... She Said requests may be submitted using the program request form linked below or may be submitted through email sent to RAISE@indiana.edu.

Become a RAISE Peer Educator. Raise is always in need of strong student support. Without peer-educators we would be unable to provide our He Said... She Said programs or attend any events.

Students involved with RAISE perform three main tasks:

    • Performing our interactive dialog He Said... She Said.
    • Tabling and participating in events all over campus.
    • Participating in the bi-annual condom distribution.

Peer-educators who choose to perform He Said... She Said must attend a required 8-hour training session. Contact RAISE via email for more information on applying to be a peer educator.
