Homework #5 is due before class.
Reading: Mencius, Readings 4 Reference: Mencius, Selections
The topic of today's class will be the Mencian doctrine of timeliness and its approach towards a complex concept, sometimes translated as "fate." The readings are annotated with a bit more detail than usual, and rather than repeat the points made there on this sheet, I'll simply refer you directly to the reading.
The midterm exam will be a take-home exam, passed out in class on Wednesday and due back at the beginning of class on Monday, October 24. I expect to prepare a brief advance description of the way the midterm will be structured - I'll revise this page with a link to that description as soon as I've prepared and posted it . . . Here's the link to the Midterm Description.
