Dan Smith received his Ph.D. in Business with a concentration in Marketing from the University of Pittsburgh in 1988 and joined the faculty of the IU Kelley School of Business in 1996. Smith was appointed dean in 2004. Smith's teaching and research interests include strategic brand management, marketing productivity analysis, and marketing innovation. His research has appeared in leading business journals such as the Harvard Business Review, the Strategic Management Journal, the Journal of Marketing Research, the Journal of Marketing, the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, and the Journal of Consumer Research. He is recognized as one of the school’s top classroom instructors. In addition to his academic work, he has served as a consultant to leading companies that include Alcoa, Kodak, Motorola, IBM, Samsung, Oscar Mayer, Eli Lilly, Abbott Labs, Saab USA, The United Way, and Emerson Electric.
