Joe Romero currently oversees emergency management programs for the five regional campuses of Indiana University. He also supports mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery activities across the entire university enterprise in the U.S. and abroad. Joe facilitates policy development, collaborative decision making, and emergency planning for university public safety officials, administrators, and other key stakeholders.
Prior to joining Indiana University, Joe was the Emergency Planning Section Chief at the Indiana Department of Homeland Security. He also served in public safety positions at the Indianapolis International Airport, Indianapolis - Marion County Emergency Management Division, and is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
Joe continues to collaborate with emergency responders from across the state of Indiana. He serves on Indiana’s Incident Management Assistance Team and Indiana Task Force One, an urban search and rescue team based in Indianapolis.
Joe has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the School of Science at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis.
