A Call to Action

“I have pledged vigorous action in a number of critical areas and across all of our campuses in order to position IU at the forefront of the world’s best research universities.

Central to achieving this goal will be the dedicated efforts of all of the staff members at IU who provide such a vital source of expertise, energy, and enthusiasm.”

David Wantz

Associate Vice President of Community Relations, University of Indianapolis
David Wantz

David Wantz is a native of Baltimore, Maryland, who has lived in Indiana the greater part of his life. He is married to Susan Fleck, a professional photographer. They have two adult children and three rebellious teenaged cats.

David has been at the University of Indianapolis for 25 years and has served in a variety of capacities, including full-time teaching, directing continuing education, and senior administration. He now oversees community relations. He has graduate degrees in business and education and a doctorate in counseling psychology from Indiana University. Dr. Wantz has licenses in both clinical social work and mental health counseling.

In 1987, he formed a consulting firm that has worked with clients from Fortune 500 companies, small businesses, hospitals, civil governments, professional associations, and institutions of higher education. He specializes in situations that deal with sensitive matters, conflicts, and effective management. He has earned the Crystal Apple from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education for excellence in teaching.

David serves in a variety of civic leadership positions: as a governor’s appointee to the Law Enforcement Training Board; Vice President of the board for Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc.; a member of the Perry Township Fire Department Merit Commission; and the treasurer at Resurrection Lutheran Church.

His classes are not stuffy lectures, but are interactive sessions where psychological theories are made into practical actions. You will find him to be entertaining and informative. He strives to live up to his grandmother’s admonition that he try to be useful as well as ornamental.
