Yale University, Ph.D. 1958.

His interests are in applied and health ethics, contemporary continental philosophy, Marxist philosophy, political philosophy, and the history of social and political philosophy. He has been the president of the Indiana Philosophical Association and was a 1993 Fulbright fellow. He has served on the executive committee of the Central Division of the American Philosophical Association.
