Checklist for Applicants

U.S. Domestic Resident Applicants (including those educated abroad)

Send the following to the Office of the Bursar:

  • Application Fee.

Send the following to the Department of Philosophy:

  • A complete Application Form for Admission and Financial Aid, which includes:
    • An application form (on paper or online).  All applicants are automatically considered for financial aid.
    • Three letters of recommendation.
  • A 300- to 500-word statement of purpose.
  • One official transcript of all previous college and university course work.
  • One paper in philosophy written by the applicant recently for a course or seminar.
  • An official report of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), sent directly to the Department of Philosophy. (Note: Use the "School Code" 1324 and the "Department code" 2801 to ensure that the GRE scores are sent directly to us.)

In addition, U.S. domestic resident applicants educated abroad should include:

  • The Supplemental Application for Admission.

International Applicants

Send the following to the Office of International Admissions:

  • A complete International Application for Admission.
  • The application fee (do not send to the bursar).
  • Two passport-size photos (with your name on the back).
  • Original academic records or certified (notarized or attested) copies.
  • An official TOEFL report (this does not apply to native citizens of English-speaking   countries).
  • An official report of your Graduate Record Examination.
  • Three letters of recommendation.

In addition, international applicants should send the following to the Department of Philosophy:

  • A 300- to 500-word statement of purpose.
  • One paper in philosophy written recently by the applicant for a course or seminar.
