For showing paths (Lissajous figures) produced by compounding two simple harmonic motions at right angles to each other. A heavy metal funnel 8.5 cm (3 3/8 in.) in diameter at the top and 7 cm (2 3/4 in.) long, with a small outlet, is suspended by two cords. A sliding clip holds the cords together at any desired distance from the points of suspension, thereby varying the periods of the motions parallel and perpendicular to the suspension bar. Sand trickling from the funnel on teresting and fundamentally important curves.
