Poetry and Pierogi Series
Throughout the semester, the Polish Cultural Association and the Polish Studies Center sponsor monthly readings and discussions of Polish poetry, accompanied by delicious pierogi from Euro Deli!

    Visiting Guest Lecture: "POLIN Museum: Reconnecting with a Great, Forgotten Past" presented by Prof. Dariusz Stola (Institute for Political Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences).

FALL 2015:

September:

  • September 16, Polish Night #1: We watched Polish film shorts/animations
  • September 26, PSC hosted Lotus Festival Polish Musicians Karolina Cicha and Bart Pałyga

October:

  • October 7, Polish Night #2: Polish Music Night. We watched popular Polish music videos from the 1960 until today.
  • October 8, Andrea Bohlman, Assistant Professor of Musicology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, presented Hearing Beyond the Censor: Music and Oppositional Agency in Polish Independent Culture.
  • October 29, Poetry and Pierogi Night: Eat delicious food while discussing Polish poetry. English and Polish translations provided.

November:

  • November 3, Folk Music Workshop with Michael Young, Ph.D. Candidate in Ethnomusicology & Folklore.
  • November 11, Polish Night #3: We watched the Polish Film, The Suicide Room.

Began Biweekly “Przekładańce” – translation practice sessions.

December:

  • December 3, Jack Bloom, a sociologist from IU Northwest, will present A Party at War with Itself: Inside Poland's Communist Party During its Fight Against Solidarity, 1980-1981,
  • Decembe 10, Annual PSC Holiday Party, featuring Polish carols, our traditional annual cooking contest, and more! Thursday December 10th, 6pm-8pm. University Club, President's Room, in the IU Memorial Union.
