IU Delegation to South Korea and China: Visit to Sungkyunkwan University
On Monday, Nov. 3, the IU delegation visited the Seoul campus of Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU), where leaders from both institutions signed a general agreement of friendship and cooperation. SKKU also awarded President McRobbie an honorary doctor of science degree. Founded in 1398, SKKU is one of South Korea’s leading research institutions. |

IU Delegation to South Korea and China: Yonsei University Visit
President McRobbie and the IU delegation traveled to Yonsei University in Seoul on Monday, Nov. 3, where they met with Yonsei President Han-Joong Kim and other representatives of the university to discuss possibilities of collaboration. One of South Korea's oldest and most highly regarded research universities, Yonsei University features 17 IU graduates among its faculty. |

IU Delegation to South Korea and China: IU Korea Alumni Association Dinner
On Sunday, Nov. 2, in Seoul, the IU delegation attended a dinner with the IU Korea Alumni Association and Se-Ung Lee, chairman of the Board of Seoul Cyber University. More than 1,200 of IU's 6,000 international students come from Korea each year, and the alumni club in Seoul has more than 1,000 members, making it one of the largest IU alumni groups in the world. |

Soon after arriving in the Republic of Korea, the IU delegation attended a Jacobs School of Music alumni concert. The concert was followed by a reception with the IU Korea Alumni Association. One of the IU delegation’s goals for the visit is to strengthen its links with the country’s musical life. |

University Medal Ceremony
President McRobbie awarded the University Medal to Curt Simic, only the eighth person to receive the honor, in a ceremony on June 12, 2008. Simic retired in June 2008 after serving as president of the IU Foundation for 20 years. |

I-Light Announcement
On June 20, 2008, President McRobbie announced the completion of I-Light, a high-speed, fiber-optic network that will provide every public and private college campus in Indiana with digital communications at least 20 times faster than a typical home Internet connection. |

Lilly Endowment Gift Announcement
On December 12, Sarah B. Cobb and President McRobbie announced gifts from the Lilly Endowment, totaling $69 million, for the music and law schools. The gifts will provide IU's world-class music faculty and students with a state-of-the-art studio facility and propel the School of Law-Bloomington to even higher levels of excellence among public university law schools. |

Trip to Australia: Honorary Doctorate
On December 3, President McRobbie returned to his native country of Australia and paid a visit to his alma mater, the University of Queensland, where he received an honorary doctorate degree. In November, he was made an honorary fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities. |

President McRobbie led a 10-member Indiana University delegation to China from Nov. 24 to Dec.1. During the visit, McRobbie and members of the delegation met with the China chapter of the Indiana University Alumni Association, including graduates of the Kelley School of Business. |

Zhejiang Symposium
Indiana University and Zhejiang University, one of China’s leading universities, held their first joint symposium on Nov. 30. President McRobbie and Zhejiang University President Yang Wei both emphasized the opportunities for partnership and collaboration between the institutions in their opening addresses, and then they formally strengthened the partnership by signing a five-year agreement. |

President McRobbie and the IU delegation spent their first day in China in Shanghai. They spent the day meeting university and international program officials such as East China Normal University Vice President Qun Chen. In the evening McRobbie spoke briefly at a dinner hosted by the Shanghai branch of the IU Alumni Association’s China Chapter. |
