IU Research and Teaching Preserve
Learn to Fish Workshop
Fifteen Indiana University students and staff got up early on Saturday, October 20, 2008, to learn how to fish at Griffy Lake. Jenna Morrison (IU Research Teaching Preserve staff member) coordinated the event, inviting DNR GoFishIN instructor Pat Cooper and the IU Bass Fishing Club to help teach participants about Indiana fishing regulations, how to tie fishing knots, and to practice casting.
The group welcomed the donated treats from the Green Bean and coffee from Dunkin Donuts on the cool morning. Participants used fishing equipment and guidebooks supplied by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The group members tested their fishing knots by playing tug-o-war and practiced casting with clothes pins and plastic fish in the parking lot. The instruction and bait donated by the Fishin Shedd proved successful as participants caught several bluegill and catfish from Griffy Lake.
