The Willard Pavilion was dedicated on October 24, 2009, in memory of SPEA Professor Daniel E. Willard and his contributions to ecology. Willard was a nationally recognized wetlands expert and passionate teacher, and was instrumental in ensuring the preservation of the Griffy Woods area and the establishment of the IU Research and Teaching Preserve. The pavilion provides a scenic and inspiring location for discussions, lectures, and nature observation overlooking University Lake.
If you would like to honor the memory of Professor Willard as well as support the Research and Teaching Preserve, send your gift to the address below or click on the "Give Now" button to submit a contribution online. Gifts made to the original Willard Pavilion Fund were used to construct the Willard Pavilion, an observation platform overlooking University Lake. Funds also supported the building of a dock as well as a staircase linking the platform and dock. Upon completion of the Pavilion, staircase, dock, and follow-up maintenance, the Indiana University Foundation transferred 50 percent of the remaining funds to benefit the Daniel E. Willard Fellowship in Wetlands Research at the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University Bloomington and the other 50 percent of remaining funds to the Indiana University Nature Preserve Fund where they have been earmarked for maintenance of the Willard Pavilion.
