IU Bloomington strives to maintain the highest standards of teaching quality at every level of instruction. In concert with the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and the Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs, the Office of the Provost supports innovative, effective pedagogy and curricula.
The Bloomington campus has unveiled its newest classroom, a collaborative learning studio within the Student Building that will be available for use in Fall 2013. Featuring a video wall connected to 16 digital group workstations, the classroom enables maximum engagement and interaction among students and instructors.
The collaborative learning studio is one of several recent redesign projects to equip spaces, students, and instructors for 21st-century learning excellence. Other examples include the Collaboration Cafe and the Learn Lab in Cedar Hall and the node chair classrooms in Ballantine Hall.
The classroom innovation process is guided by the report of the New Directions in Teaching and Learning Committee, the work of the Classroom Committee, and the Empowering People report that set a strategic plan for information technology at Indiana University.
Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning
The Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL) is now housed in Wells Library. CITL’s new, strategically planned space reflects its centrality to the mission of Indiana University. By providing faculty and graduate student instructors with innovative tools for helping students achieving learning outcomes, CITL upholds the university’s core objective of disseminating knowledge. The Wells Library location not only offers new meeting spaces, workrooms, visualization tools and teleconferencing technology, but also immediate access to all the outstanding teaching and learning resources of the IU Libraries.
Online Course Questionnaires
In April 2012, the Bloomington Faculty Council approved a policy outlining a campus-wide transition to Online Course Questionnaires (OCQs). The following documents outline the rationale for the decision, research on OCQs, and the timeline for implementation of the new system.
