IUB Pakistani Students Association
Mission Statement and Constitution

The aim of the Pakistani Students Association of IUB is to represent and support Pakistani culture and values among the Indiana University populace. The PSA also serves as an active platform from which to put forward the needs of Pakistani students.

PSA Constitution

  • Article I: General Organization

    • The name of this organization shall be the Pakistani Students Association of Indiana University at Bloomington, which will henceforth be referred to as PSA and Indiana University, respectively.
    • The membership of PSA shall consist of none other than students currently and previously enrolled at Indiana University.
    • The officers of the Executive Board shall be headed by the President, and the board shall therbye be presided by the Secretary, Treasurer, Webmaster and respective Social Events, Public Relations and Publicity Chairs. Additional positions may be created subject to the Executive Committee's discretion.

  • Article II: Membership

    • Anybody associated with Indiana University at Bloomington in capacity of students, faculty and staff, can become a member of the association by registering and paying his or her membership dues anytime during the first 8 weeks of either the fall or spring semester.
    • Membership dues shall be decided upon by the Executive Committee of the association at the beginning of each school year and may occasionally be altogether absent depending on the associations finances.

  • Article III: Funds

    • The major source of funds shall be the membership dues collected from the members.
    • Funds for any university wide event being sponsored and organized by the association can be requested from the finance board.

  • Article IV: Organization Structure

    • EXECUTIVE BOARD: The Executive Board shall herebye consist of the President, Vice President, General Secretary, Treasurer, and respective Chairs selected by them.
    • EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE: The Executive Committee shall consist of no less than three, and no more than six officers of the Executive Board at any point in time. Furthermore, members of the Executive Committee shall be determined unanimously by the four elected officers.
    • ASSOCIATE TEAM: If appointed, the Associate Team will be comprised of members of the PSA who shall help elected officers and Chairs carry out their respective duties effectively. They shall act on their behalf in their absence, and serve as interim replacements in the case of a resignation.

  • Article V: Elections

    • Elections for the different offices shall be conducted at the end of the spring semester, for the upcoming school year.
    • Due to some reason, like the arrival of new students in the fall semester, these elections can be delayed till the beginning of the fall semester by the mutual consensus of the executive committee.
    • Any interested candidate shall be elected by a simple majority at a general meeting.
    • The voting process shall be conducted by the president and can proceed either by a show of hands or a secret ballot, as considered appropriate by the executive committee and the members present at the election meeting.
    • Any member wishing to cast his or her vote shall be present at the meeting to do so. There shall be no absentee voting.
    • In the case of extenuating circumstances, the Executive Committee may choose to unanimously elect a succeeding committee. This process will involve a critical interview selection.

  • Article VI: Officers

    • The Executive Committee of the association shall compose of no less than three and no more than six officers. It shall furthermore consist only of members from the Executive Board which include elected officers, and selected Chairs.
    • The elected offices shall be that of the President, Vice President, General Secretary, and Treasurer.
    • Chairs for the positions of Webmaster, Social Events, Publicity and Public Relations will then be selected either by vote or unanimously by members of the Executive Committee.
    • The term of the four elected offices shall be one school year, whereas positions for the respective Chairs shall be reviewed each semester. If appointed, the same individual can stay in office for two consecutive semesters. Any elected official, if elected, can stay in any of the elected offices for more than one year.
    • In the event of the resignation of any one of the elected officers, an election shall be called by the President. In the case of a Chair resigning, a replacement will be unanimously selected by the Executive Committee. Should the President resign, the Vice President shall become the interim president untill a replacement is elected.

  • Article VII: Officer duties

    • PRESIDENT: The president shall preside over all meetings of the association, ensure smooth and efficient functioning of the association, and ensure the association's effective representation at all international moots and functions.
    • VICE PRESIDENT: If appointed, the Vice President shall help the president in carrying out his or her duties effectively, and shall be the acting President in the President's absence.
    • GENERAL SECRETARY: The General Secretary shall call the meetings of the association, and keep a written record of the minutes of the meetings, and carry out any other delegated duties.
    • TREASURER: The treasurer shall keep an accurate record of the assets of the association. In addition to being responsible for applying for new funds, the treasurer will also be required to present a financial report at least once each semester or more than once if requested by the President.
    • WEBMASTER: The Webmaster shall be responsible for updating and maintaining the PSA website. He or she must ensure the up to date and adequate coverage and representation of PSA events on the website. Content is to be gathered by the Webmaster from officers of the Executive Board through help of Associate Team members.
    • SOCIAL EVENTS CHAIR: If appointed, The Social Events Chair shall coordinate and organize different social and cultural activities, publicize them adequately all over campus, and make sure that they run smoothly.
    • PUBLICITY CHAIR: The joint secretary shall help the secretary in carrying out his duties effectively, and in the absence of the secretary keep a written record of the minutes of the meetings, and carry out any other delegated duties.
    • PUBLIC RELATIONS CHAIR:

  • Article VIII: Meetings

    • At least two general mass meetings shall be called each semester, one in the beginning and the other at the end of the semester. However, a special meeting may be called at any given time, by the President or by a simple majority of members.
    • Executive Board meetings will be held no fewer than twice a month at a designated room in the Kelley School of Business.
    • If needed, a regular meeting schedule can be decided upon by officers of the Executive Board.

  • Article IX: Amendments

    • Any changes shall be made by members of the Executive Commitee and ratified during a meeting of the association's Executive Board.
    • A simple majority of the Executive Board shall constitute a quorum. Two thirds of that majority shall carry the amendment.

  • Article X: Bylaws

    • The President, Vice President, General Secretary, Treasurer and respective Chairs may incorporate any bylaws with the approval of a simple majority of the Executive Board.
