Q. Who is Roland?
A. Roland /'ro-lend/ n [F] : a stalwart defender of First-Year Psychology
Students against the [insert evil thing of your choice here] at IU Bloomington
who has solemnly heard the trials and tribulations of countless new graduate
students from his place of honor on the wall of the Psychology conference
room.
First off, welcome to the IU-Bloomington Psychology Department. Second,
there are two sources of information which you will find invaluable. The
first is the IU home page, http://www.indiana.edu/iub/.
From departmental information to your IU records to e-mail addresses to
University Computing Services (UCS) help pages, the home page has many
links that you will use often. The second source is the Graduate Bulletin.
All of the information on committees, course requirements, forms, quals,
defense, etc. is in the grad bulletin. You should keep a copy handy, and
reference it often. Also, you'll want to take a look at the departmental
web page at http://www.indiana.edu/~psych/.
Finally, Professor John Kruschke has made an invaluable guide to success
in grad school called the Virtual Mentor at http://www.indiana.edu/~kruschke/lab/gradgoals.html.
With this FAQ we have tried to fill in the cracks and make your start
here a little easier. Keep in mind that you are always welcome to ask another
graduate student for help. If you think of something that should be added
to this list, e- mail the pagemaster, and we'll include it. The FAQ list
has been broken into three pages. The first
page contains general information about such things as copiers, libraries,
campus, computers, on-line information, keys, bills, staff, registration,
health, classes, parking, minority information, etc. We recommend looking
over this page. The second
has information about Bloomington in general: housing, roommate, furniture,
utilities, what-to-do, taxes, banking, etc. The third
page contains information pertinent to AI's (TA's) such as how to post
grades, make copies, resources, scantrons, etc.
