During the 2011-2012 academic year, Psychology Club activities included:

  • A call-out meeting attended by well over 100 psychology majors. The crowd spilled out of PY226 and down the stairs into the main lobby!

  • A "First-Year Majors Orientation" focused on opportunities available for psychology and neuroscience majors. This event featured Psychology Club members who talked about the benefits of getting involved in service-learning and field experience courses, volunteer work, participating in research labs and so forth. Pauline Campbell (PBS Advising Team) and Drs. Hoffman & Hoke-Sinex also answered student questions about courses and activities.

  • The first annual Trick-or-Treat Canned Food Drive resulted in more than 300 pounds of canned goods being donated to Hoosier Hills Food Bank.

  • Football Freakonomics! A fun event featuring games and webisodes with PBS lecturer Ben Motz from a series on statistical truths and myths that played on the NFL network.

  • Faculty chats with Professor Ed Hirt (Get a -Social- Life!), Dr. Thomas Gruenenfelder (Amazing Memory Strategies), Dr. Richard Hullinger (Attention & Genetic Algorithm Research) and Irene Vlachos-Weber (Clinical Psychology).

  • Movie nights: "The Illusionist" and "Shutter Island". The screening of "Shutter Island" was followed by a rousing discussion about mental illness and the ethics of testing treatments for mental illness on people.

  • Valentine's Day Senior Prom at Redbud Retirement home. Psychology Club members dressed up and visited the Redbud home for a swing-dance themed Valentine's Day event.

  • "Freud Night" featured a presentation on Freud's theories about the link between dreams and implicit thoughts or desires. The discussion that followed included lucid dreaming, nightmares, and sleepwalking.

  • Selling candy to benefit Autism Speaks and a special "Autism Awareness" event on April 24th.

  • The Second Annual Ice Cream Social on April 25th.

During the 2010-2011 academic year, Psychology Club activities included:

  • Participation in the Out of Darkness community walk to support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
  • A call-out meeting attended by over 200 psychology majors.

  • Movie night -- "Fight Club"

  • A career panel in which 3 undergraduate students talked about their experience in choosing a career focus and planning for their future in psychology. Guests included: Janis Crawford (Goal: Social Psychology), Brian Davis (Goal: Neuroscience and Pharmacology), and Amanda Vizek (Goal: Secondary education, teaching high school psychology).

  • A Counseling/Clinical Psychology Graduate School Information Session with guest speakers Susan Larimer (Student Services Coordinator at the IUPUI MSW program) and Emily Johnson (graduate student in the Clinical Psychology (PsyD) program at the University of Indianapolis). Emily's concentration is in Child/Adolescent Psychopathology.

  • "Psychology Trivia Night" - a jeopardy-style event at which the winners won gift certificates.

  • Kids Psych Day was organized by the Service Committee. Club members shared fun psychological science demonstrations with young Middleway House residents.

  • Club President, Molly Blazak, and other members attended Psi Chi's percentage night at Buffa Louie's to benefit Amythest House.

  • Executive Board Members served around 100 students in the lobby of the psychology building during the Club's Ice Cream Social on April 26th.
