Archaeological Study of a Limestone Sinkhole:
Diving in Manantial de la Aleta
California State Parks has been assisting East National Park staff in the
Dominican Republic with the documentation of a cenote in the tropical
jungle. At a depth of 115 feet, this site has yielded a wealth of Taino
artifacts dating five centuries before the conquest. John Foster, Senior
State Archaeologist, has volunteered with this important work as part of a
bi-national team.
Once again, California State Parks has demonstrated leadership in Park
management and protection.
