The anchor illustrated here is often called the Benwood Anchor, since it lies nearby the shipwreck. However, research has indicated that the anchor is characteristic of an older vessel, and the modern-style anchor of the Benwood is verified in research by Indiana University. Where the nearby anchor came from is sketchy, and possibly never be known.
