A grid is set up on the Benwood's bow to monitor the growth of the corals on the starboard side of the vessel. Over the years, the effects of diver impact and enviromental changes can be documented. The changes are due to the presence of thousands of divers each year. Coral is very ensitive to changes in the environment which can lead to destruction. The last research documentation was June of 1996, with plans to go again in the summer of 1997.
