The EAGLE as an Artificial Reef

The Eagle was intentionally sunk to be an artificial reef. Since her sinking in 1985, much life has formed creating a fantastic display of corals and marine habitats. There are currently 5 biological monitoring sites on the Eagle, which are periodically checked for growth and new species. Some of the life on the Eagle includes: spiney oysters, yellowtails, snappers, gray anglefish, and barracuda. There are also many different species of coral and sponges that are inlcuded in the biological monitoring sites and have been inventoried to aid in monitoring their growth. Since this was intentionally sunk to form an artificial reef and maintain healthy populations of all marine life within the reef, spearfishing is stricly forbidden here.
