Phallic Potiza Neck with Caritas

The artifact is a neck which belongs to a heard-shaped water jug. These unique jugs are thought to be significant among the Taino and used in ceremonial procedings. Complete examples can be found at the Regional Archaeological Museum at Chavon (see image below).

Collected during the November 1996 survey, the phallic neck is approximately 19cm long and extends to a bulbous head. Notice that the spout still has its lug handles intact.
