Unique Lobed Vase

This unusual vase-shaped ceramic artifact is decorated with an incised design around the middle portion of the pot. The thickness of the jar wall, the squarish shape (top view), and the unusual texture set the design of this pottery apart from the other types.

Only one other pot of this style is known to have been recovered. According to Herbert Krieger (Aboriginal Indian Pottery of the Dominican Republic, 1931), a lobate vase with a bottle-shaped neck was recovered from Cueva de Roma by Dr. Abbott. The consistency is "approaching stoneware", but otherwise the designs and incisions are typical of Taino. (See image below)
