Tortoise Shell Platter
PNE-01-Z-0004
Design: The platter is in the shape of a carapace
(outer shell) of a turtle. There isn't a design on the exterior of the
pot however one exists in a simple design of incised lines on the
interior. This design is flush with the rim.
Size:Height 10.8cm, Width at Mouth 21.6cm
Condition: The platter is almost completely
intact. It appears that there may have been two
handles attached to the rim due to the uneven and slightly wider areas
which disrupt the pattern on the inside.
Color:Blackish brown with reddish hue.
Temper:Grit
Collection Date:Prior to August 1996
Illustration:
Comments:The design consists of eight ovaloid
circles with punctations on the outer, inside edges of these shapes. There
are four ovaloids on each side of the pot. Each ovaloid is divided by
double, parallel, verticle lines.
