Hatchet
PNE-01-Z-0014
Design:The hatchet has a knob on one end and
gradually increases in diameter tapering off to a rounded point. There
is a hole bored though the center of the piece on the largest end. This
hole is bigger on one side than the other suggesting that during it's
use, a cobble was placed within to complete the hatchet.
Size:Length 48.3cm, Greatest Width 5.1cm,
Smallest Width 2.54cm
Condition:Good. A bit dry and light, but sturdy.
Color:Brown with areas of yellow and dark
brown. Wood grain apparent but not yet indentifiable.

Collection Date:Prior to August 1996

Comments:The hatchet exhibits lighter colored
areas encircling the area around the hole. These areas are somewhat
depressed and may be examples of worn rope depressions.
