Broadcast Telecourses
A broadcast telecourse is a complete instructional package, built around a core of television programs, that can be used to provide college credit to students who cannot come to campus. Typically, an educational institution licenses a telecourse from an agency such as the PBS Adult Learning Service and then assigns a local instructor to work with the students.
Survey level telecourses, designed by leading experts, exist for most academic disciplines. Millions of dollars and years of design and production help achieve quality materials that meet rigorous academic standards. Some of the best programming aired on public television is designed as a component of a broadcast telecourse.
Educational Services can help you deliver a telecourse to nontraditional students within the WTIU broadcast area. We acquire the appropriate materials and licenses and arrange to have the core programs broadcast on WTIU. You enhance the television core through correspondence, readings, written assignments, telephone office hours and performance evaluation. Generally, the Office of Continuing Studies can handle course promotion and administrative details such as registration.
