4. What is WTIU doing for digital TV?
« Previous | Home | Next »
Digital TV will provide WTIU:
- sharper image
- 5.1 Dolby sound
- up to 4 channels
- expanded programming
Currently, WTIU's DTV channels include:
- TIU HD (30.1): All of the favorite programs you've come to expect from WTIU, with most of them in High Definition (HD).
- TIU WORLD (30.2 in Standard Definition [SD]): PBS' acclaimed documentary, public affairs and news programming is now available 24/7 on TIU WORLD. Programming includes critically-acclaimed series like American Experience, Frontline, History Detectives, Nature, The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, NOVA, and _Scientific American Frontiers. _
- TIU FAMILY (30.3 in SD): Public television's most-popular how-to programs provide expert advice on cooking, arts & crafts, gardening, home improvement and travel. Tune in and be inspired to taste, grow, imagine, and explore.
- TIU ESPAÑOL (30.4 in SD): WTIU premieres the fastest-growing Hispanic TV Network in History -- V-me -- meaning "see me." V-me presents smart, engaging and empowering entertainment for America's Latino families, including original productions, exclusive acquisitions, and specially-adapted public TV hits.
Local productions will also change format with a recent purchase of five HD studio and field cameras. Programs such as THE WEEKLY SPECIAL and THE FRIDAY ZONE will start using digital TV equipment to produce these programs.
The DTV conversion means analog viewers of some shows will see them in letterbox form. PBS will deliver both standard-definition and HD versions of the show, with the SD version downconverted from the HD, which accounts for the letterboxing.
