About The Our Town Project

The OUR TOWN series profiles the people, places, and happenings of southcentral Indiana communities. WTIU has a long history of producing documentaries of the communities we serve—Spirit of Monroe County; Hometown: A Journey Through Terre Haute; Brown County Artists: Expanding the Legacy; and Columbus, Indiana: Different by Design.

Beginning in 2005, WTIU started a series of more frequent productions about the smaller communities in our area—OUR TOWN. The process begins with a meeting with the people of the featured communities to determine the content of each show. A town’s residents know what makes their community special. They experience their town as a home, all times of the day and all days of the year.

Beginning in the town of Spencer, Indiana, WTIU has made many new friends, and hopefully brought viewers some insight into what makes our part of the state special. We continue to roam the streets, ducking into cafés, listening to high school bands, talking with people and treating viewers to the many personalities, perspectives, and possibilities each community has to offer.
