In the upper register, Empress Cunegund, who had a virginal marriage with her husband, Henry II, is undergoing an ordeal by fire (walking over hot plowshares) while Henry sits in judgment. (She was wrongly accused of adultery.) In the lower register, Cunegund is forgiving her judges for their false suspicions while they kneel in veneration.
