Piceance
The vertical stacking patterns of sandstone, shale, and coal in the Piceance Basin are shown here in shades of gray. The vertical white columns represent wells drilled into the earth, and the white wavy lines are the well logs. The different rock types are recognized by their unique inflections on the well logs. The formal names of rock sequences penetrated by the drill bit are shown on the right.
