Currently, natural gas, oil, and petroleum supply about 85 percent of
world energy needs. Experts predict that by the year 2050, alternative forms of
energy--solar, wind, hydroelectric, and nuclear--will need to meet more than 30
percent of our energy demand, and by the year 2100, 60 percent will have to come
from alternative sources. This dramatic change will take place as non-renewable
fossil fuels are depleted and world energy demand increases in the next century.
