The Photographs:

Good teachers are often active, animated, and enthusiastic. To portray this, we took stylized photos showing action and movement. In the process of determining what we would put on the cover of this issue, Gregor Novak, professor of physics at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, talked about his response to the question, "What do you teach?" His response has always been, "I teach students." Good teachers frequently are student-centered, so it seemed appropriate to make students the subject of this cover. The scholarship on teaching should, first and foremost, concern itself with students.
