Today was the very first day of my life,
That I walked to school all by myself.
I even left Caesar (the bear) back at home,
But I took Edwin Snee, (he's my elf).
We walked down the path by the bushes in front
Of our house where my mom stayed to wave.
As we started to go past the house right next door,
We tried hard to look happy and brave.
We got to the corner and looked left and right,
( And we didn't see any cars there),
So we crossed the street looking around ( a bit scared),
Then I really missed Caesar (The Bear).
Well, we made it across, with just two blocks to go,
We were almost in front of the school.
Still we kept looking up and we kept looking down,
Because Edwin and I knew the rule.
We now were in front of my friend Amy's house.
Her mom bakes us cookies, (she's kind).
When I turned to look back and adjusted my pack,
I saw Mom just a half block behind.
She was making a fuss and was running to us
So we stopped there and what did she say?
She said she was scared, but just 'cause she cared,
To make sure that I got there ok.
I told her "Go home! We are walking alone,
Hey I don't need you following me!"
(I'm a block from my school and was feeling real cool),
"And I'm NOT alone, can't you see Snee?"
She begged to come with us, we got in a line,
And we walked up to school as we talked.
But the gate was shut tight, not a kid was in sight.
It was Saturday and it was LOCKED!
