Dr. Sarah Young

Dr. Sarah J. Young is an Associate Professor and Undergraduate Coordinator with the Department. Dr. Young has published numerous articles in a variety of professional journals, including NIRSA Journal, Parks and Recreation, Journal of Legal Aspects of Sport, Schole, and the Journal of Recreation and Leisure. Dr. Young’s research interests are sport management, legal aspects of recreation and sport, risk management, playground safety, and scholarship of teaching.

The undergraduate curriculum, leading to the Bachelor of Science in Recreation degree, prepares students for positions as recreation activity programmers, planners, and leaders; managers of facilities; supervisors; park and recreation resource managers; and specialists in such areas as computer applications, therapeutic recreation, military recreation, and environmental education.

Students seeking the Bachelor of Science in Recreation degree may select from five emphases:

R-1 Series

The Department of Recreation, Park, and Tourism Studies offers an outstanding exploratory program for students to learn more about several aspects of recreation, park, and tourism studies. The R-1 series is a program that allows students from a variety of backgrounds and interest levels to experience new and challenging endeavors. Topics include leadership, outdoor adventure, environmental exploration, and adaptive adventure.  Please visit the R-1 Series overview for more information on these classes.
