Dr. Voichita Nachescu
Voichita Nachescu is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at Rice University’s Center for the Study of Women, Gender and Sexuality. She has a Ph.D. in American Studies with a concentration in Women’s Studies from SUNY Buffalo, an MA in Oral History and Cultural Anthropology from the Timisoara Open College, and an MA in Comparative Literature from the University of the West in Timisoara, Romania. Her areas of specialization include gender and new social movements in the United States, transnational feminism and modern Romanian literature. Recent publications include “Hierarchies of Difference: National Identity, Gay and Lesbian Rights and the Church in Post-communist Romania” in Sexuality and Gender in Postcommunist Eastern Europe and Russia and “Nation, Literature, and Gender – Outlines for a Romanian Case Study,” published in Gender Studies (University of the West Timisoara).
