Based on the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, this film’s script was written by the well-known Russian writer Yevgheny Schwartz. The film is a touching story of remarkable love, human kindness and faithfulness to one’s duties. The fairy tale tells the story of the wonderful journey of a modest little girl, Herda. Herda is searching for her friend Kai, who was kidnapped by a powerful and wicked fairy the Snow Queen, and taken to her kingdom. Travelling in search of her dear friend, Herda mistakenly lands in the castle of a sly and treacherous, though comical, king, afterwards getting acquainted with bandits in the forest.
