Video Editing: iMovie Quick Reference
Step 1. Connect camera to computer
A. When you bring a video cassette
A-1. Insert the cassette into VCR.B. When you bring an analogue camera
B-1. Connect RCA cables from the camera to SONY mini box ( ˇ°Video INˇ± not OUT)
B-2. Turn the camera ON and switch to VCR/VTR modeC. When you bring a digital camera
C-1. Connect firewire cable to computer
C-2. Turn the camera ON and switch to VCR/VTR modeNow you are ready to capture your video work in the computer.
Step 2. Capturing video work
A. Run iMovie
B. Select New Project
C. Select the movie-camera icon on the iMovie by sliding the blue circle into the left
D. Then, the message ˇ°Camera Connectedˇ± comes out.
E. Press IMPORT button. You can click on this button to stop and start importing.
Then, you can find a clip named ˇ° Clip1ˇ± on the right side. You can change the name of the clip by clicking on the name.
Step 3. Editing clips
A. Drag the clip to Timeline
B. Choose a clip that you want to edit in Timeline
C. Place the mouse cursor underneath the tick marks. Then, timid white two triangle handles appear. You can move the cursor with pressing the mouse until you pick the point where you want to cut.
D. Select Edit>Crop to trim off what you just selected
Note: To avoid losing imported clip by mistake, please copy your clip before you start to edit
Step 4. Inserting Transitions between clips
A. Choose a desired transition by pressing Transitions button on the bottom of the Shelf.
B. Drag the transition into the Timeline, between the clips where you want to insert it.
C. To confirm whether the effect you choose works well, press Preview button.
Step 5. Creating Text Titles
A. Select the Title button
B. Input whatever you want
C. Drag the title into the Timeline
Step 6. Adding Audio
A. If you want to insert a music from your music CD
A-1. Insert your music CD in the CD-ROM drive
A-2. Click Record button to record music into the movie, then click to Stop button to end.B. If you want Sound Effects provided by iMovie
B-1. Click the Sounds button
B-2. Drag the desired effect from the list into the desired position on the music track. The music track is located just below the Timeline where your chosen clips reside.C.If you want to insert your voice narration into the movie
C-1.Click the Sounds button
C-2.Click the Record Voice button
C-3. Speak into the microphone. Click the Stop button when you finish.
Step 7. Export to Quicktime movie
A. Select File>Export Movie and select Quicktime
B. Select ˇ°Streaming Web Movie, Smallˇ±
C. Name the file and select a location for saving.
Now, you finish your video editing work.
Note: The file size may be too big to save into a floppy.
Do not save directly from iMac to CFS. It may freeze the computer.
Please connect your oncourse file manager or CFS to save your work!!
