Frequently Asked Questions
You should expect to receive your diploma approximately three months after graduation. Diplomas are mailed after final grades and after completion of degree requirements have been verified.
Your diploma will be sent to the address listed as your STUDENT HOME through the Student Center at OneStart, https://onestart.iu.edu.
There are different types of addresses on your record. They are used for different purposes. Your diploma will be sent to your STUDENT HOME address, so it is important that you take a few moments to make sure that address is correct or to update it if necessary.
You can find and update your Student Home address online in Onestart, at: https://onestart.iu.edu.
The Student Center area should be visible.
If it is not, select the Services tab.
Choose the Student Self-Service section on the left.
Click Go to Student Center.
Under the Personal Information bar, the STUDENT HOME address is displayed in the Contact Information box. Any other address types on your record will be also displayed, but your diploma will be mailed to the address listed as your STUDENT HOME.
If you need to change it, click on STUDENT HOME and then the Edit button. Once you have completed please click Ok. Then, the Save button on the next page, and verify your changes are reflected.
Your diploma will be sent through the US Postal Service—first class for domestic, regular air mail for international. It will arrive in a flat, cardboard mailer which is approximately 9x12 inches.
Yes. If you need your diploma to be delivered by FedEx instead of the USPS, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org that includes your University ID, complete address, telephone number, and credit card number with expiration date. The fee for domestic overnight priority is $25. The fee for international priority is $45.
Yes. If you prefer that your diploma not be mailed, please send an email to email@example.com, including your name and your 10 digit university ID, asking that your diploma be held. We will then email you once the diploma is ready. You will need a picture ID with you when you pick up your diploma. If you need someone else to pick up your diploma, we will need a signed authorization from you (our fax number is 812-855-3311), including the name of the person you authorize. You will be notified by email when your diploma is ready. The person picking up the diploma on your behalf must bring a valid picture ID to the Office of the Registrar,408 N. Union St.
Holds that prevent document release include Bursar encumbrance and Student Loan Administration (SLA) exit interviews. You can check for any holds that would prevent the release of your diploma through the Student Center in OneStart, https://onestart.iu.edu.
Your Primary Name as listed in the Office of the Registrar records will be printed on your diploma. If you are not an IU employee, please see our link at http://registrar.indiana.edu/diploma.shtml#name. The Request for Diploma Name Change form, along with accompanying documentation of your name, can be mailed, faxed, emailed, or brought in person. Your primary name will be updated. If you are an IU employee, please contact Human Resources and provide them with appropriate documentation for your primary name to be changed.
