Actions Taken in Response to 2011 Survey
- Upgraded campus wireless service to improve speed and access locations.
- Analyzed wireless in the residence lodges and improved it in areas with weak signals.
- Moved Web servers to the IU Data Center and Intelligent Infrastructure, improving uptime reliability.
- Changed Web site search functionality to the Google Custom Search Engine (CSE) and it has dramatically improved.
- Implemented Bit9 Software Parity, giving faculty and staff the control to install and upgrade software on their computers while preserving security.
- Restructured Student Technology Center support to improve coverage. Color printing was added to the 24/7 registration lab for easy student access.
- Opened a new Graduate Center in Jeffersonville in 2012. The classrooms were designed to allow for use of new technologies and methods of teaching.
- Deployed the new unified communication—Unicom—telephone system across campus. In addition to desktop sharing and instant messaging, faculty and staff can now join videoconferences from their desks.
- Redesigned dozens of school and departmental web pages to better utilize the web content management system, Cascade Server. Users have been trained in-depth in Cascade as redesigned pages are launched.
- Implemented Box.iu.edu service to give every student, faculty and staff member 50GB of accessible, cloud-based file storage.
- Opened the first collaborative student study lounge in Hillside Hall, providing innovative technology in comfortable surroundings.
