Rob Kling Social Informatics Fellowship

The Rob Kling Center for Social Informatics is pleased to announce the Rob Kling Social Informatics Fellowship. This fellowship of $5,000 will be used to support a doctoral student who is pursuing research in Social Informatics and interested in conducting critical studies on the impact and consequences of computerization, the Internet, or digital media on individuals, organizations, or society. The winner of this year’s fellowship will be announced in June 2013. This award may be renewable for a second year.

Applicants must submit a brief statement (up to four pages) describing their research, complete the attached form, and attach a copy of their transcript, a CV, and two letters of reference. Preference will be given to students who have advanced to candidacy, although all doctoral students at Indiana University, Bloomington are encouraged to apply.

Email your completed application to Pnina Fichman (fichman@indiana.edu) and Eden Medina (edenm@indiana.edu) by May 15, 2013. The Rob Kling Social Informatics Fellowship Committee will consider only complete applications.

Graduate Students Travel Awards

The Rob Kling Center for Social Informatics is pleased to announce two travel awards in the amount of $500.00 each to graduate students who are interested in social informatics. The travel grants aim to help defray costs associated with travel to present a paper or poster at an academic conference.

To be considered, students must write a brief statement (up to one page) explaining why they should be awarded the travel grant to attend this conference, complete the attached form, and attach a copy of their transcript, a CV, and proof of paper or poster acceptance (or other proof that you will appear on the program).

Email your completed application to Pnina Fichman (fichman@indiana.edu) and Eden Medina (edenm@indiana.edu) by January 31, 2013. Only complete applications will be considered.

Doctoral Student Group

Graduate students who are interested in Social Informatics at Indiana University, Bloomington should consider joining the doctoral student group, sponsored by the Rob Kling Center for Social Informatics. This group hosts both social and academic events to support students across departmental boundaries. Student Events

Student events for the Rob Kling Center for Social Informatics are open to all interested graduate students and include, but are not limited to:

  • Student social events with guest speaker to discuss theory and methods for Social Informatics research
  • Opportunities for students to discuss research with scheduled RKCSI speakers

RKCSI has a mailing list just for students. Students interested in Social Informatics around the world are welcome to subscribe.
