IU’s partnership with Indiana Black Expo, Inc. (IBE) includes year-round initiatives aimed at getting more young African Americans to attend college, programs that provide information and incentives to prospective college students, and participation in IBE’s Summer Celebration.

Indiana University has long participated in the Summer Celebration, which each July draws more than 300,000 visitors to the week-long event at the Indiana Convention Center and RCA Dome in Indianapolis. In 2005, all eight IU campuses got involved, and now each has a presence at the summer exposition.

In addition to the IU exhibition area and “IU Day,” this year’s events include:

  • I Am IU Extravaganza!, July 17, 2008— prospective students experience a “day in the life” of an actual IU student.
  • Indiana University Alumni Reception, 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m., July 20, 2008—a special reception at the Hyatt Regency Hotel for Indiana alumni featuring football coach Bill Lynch as the speaker and the presentation of the second annual Charlie Nelms Alumni Award.
