Human Resources Technician

Master Sergeant (Ret.) Tony Smithson, USAF
MSgt Smithson joined the Air Force on 6 June 1986. He completed basic training at Lackland AFB TX on 21 July 1986. He completed the Personnel tech school at Keesler AFB MS on 10 September 1986. His first assignment was Spangdahlem Air Base Germany from October 1986 to October 1989.
While at Spangdahlem he was a manning control clerk, classification and training specialist and security police augmentee. His next assignment was to Headquarters Military Airlift Command (MAC) at Scott AFB IL from October 1989 to June 1994. While stationed at HQ MAC (and later HQ Air Mobility Command (AMC)), he was an assignment NCO responsible for managing 10,000+ personnel resources at MAC & AMC locations around the globe. His next assignment was to the Pentagon where he worked for the Administrative Assistant to the Secretary of the Air Force from June 1994 to June 1997. While at the Pentagon he was responsible for all military personnel functions for the Secretary's staff to include assignments, promotions and reorganizations.
After leaving the Pentagon he went to Indiana University to be the NCOIC, Personnel AFROTC Detachment 215 from June 1997 to April 2003. His last assignment on active duty was back to Scott Air Force Base as the Chief, Air Force Manpower and Personnel, HQ United States Transportation Command from April 2003 to June 2006.
MSgt Smithson retired on 1 September 2006 with 20 years, 2 months and 25 days. While on active duty he earned the Defense Meritorious Medal, 2 Meritorious Service Medals, 4 Air Force Commendation Medals and 2 Air Force Achievement Medals. He was a distinguished graduate from the personnel tech school, the NCO Preparatory Course and the NCO Leadership School. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and Human Resources from Park University. He is now the Human Resources Technician for the Army ROTCs Screaming Bison Battalion at Indiana University. His wife Joyce and their two sons, Jordan and Jacob, make their home in Spencer, Indiana
