Q1. Where is SAC located, and what is your phone number?
We are located at 316 N. Jordan at the corner of 7th Street and Jordan Avenue. Our phone number is 855-7313. We are open to the public from 9-12 A.M. and 1-4 P.M.

Q2. I am registered for Finite Math (M118). I've never been good at math. Can you help me?
We suggest you enroll in our X101 Learning Strategies for Math. The course content corrresponds to the material in M118 and teaches you how to think and study in mathematical ways. We also have linked courses to history and business. For descriptions check out the Courses link.
Q3. I am an international student who is unfamiliar with American college culture and professors' expectaions. What, if anything, does the Student Academic Center offer to specifically meet my needs?
We offer a course (X152: Learning Strategies for International Students) that deals specifically with the culture and academics in American colleges. The X152 course is taught by an American and an international student who understand the problems international students face in a new and unfamiliar environment. You might also be interested in one of our general study skills courses such as X150 (Managing Resources for Learning), X156 (College and Life Long Learning), or X157 (Key Strategies for Academic Success).
Q4. I have heard you offer a number of workshops on a wide variety of topics. Where can I find the workshop schedule?

Q5. I would like to improve my time management, test-taking and reading skills. Which Student Academic Center courses would help me?
The courses mentioned in Q3 would be excellent to help you with the skills you mentioned. Another course that might be helpful is X151 (Critical Reading and Questioning). The X151 course is designed to help students meet the challenges of academic reading. If you are an incoming freshman, we suggest the X152: Right Start Seminar which is a good all-around course that acquaints you with college culture and resources and teaches effective ways to manage time and handle academic challenges. And don't forget to look over the workshop schedule to find topics that meet your specific needs.
Q6. I am a beginning freshman who hasn't had much exposure to college. I want to find out more about college culture and learning resources available to me on the IUB campus. I also want the chance to make new friends and be part of a group. How can the Student Academic Center help?
The X152 Right Start Seminar is perfect for your needs. You will learn about college culture, resources and study tips in a risk-free envirnoment that allows you to engage in interesting small-group projects with peers. See the Courses link for more details.
Q7. Who does one contact to schedule a study skills presentation for a fraternity?
Contact our Outreach Coordinator Sharon Chertkoff. Sharon coordinates presentations, workshops and other special events on the IUB campus and in the wider Bloomington community.
Q8. I think I have a learning disability. How can I be tested?
Contact the Disability Services for Students at 855-3508. This service offers free screening for students.
Q9. I've always had test anxiety and can't study effectively. Who could I contact to receive one-on-one help?
Contact Sharon Chertkoff . Sharon is a warm, caring mentor to students in difficulty. In one-on-one sessions Sharon works with students to better understand and meet the challenges of university life.
