Future
M025 Student:
To be a better M025 student I suggest reading all assigned material. I
also recommend going over the example problems while doing your homework.
Going to all classes and meeting with your teacher to clear up any problems
you may have is also a very essential part in succeeding. This will let
your teacher know you are trying and in return your teacher will be more
willing to help if he knows you are really trying.
To be a better student I recommend always attending class and participating.
I also suggest doing all assigned readings and homework. I feel meeting
with an instructor outside of class is always helpful. Good luck and I
hope this is helpful.

A good student regularly attends class. Lectures are meant to better explain
readings, and are often effective at clarifying misunderstanding. They
are not a substitute for doing the readings, or vice versa. Therefore,
it is good to do the assigned readings before lecture, so the lecture
can better explain the material.
Another
effective guide to being a successful student is to stop procrastinating.
It is easy to fall behind when in the habit of procrastinating, and this
can have a snowball effect. Get started studying early and ask your professors
questions. They are happy to help you. But if you wait until the last
minute it could be too late.

Business
Law L201 A
The business law prerequisite for the Kelley Business School requires
thorough understanding of the material to succeed in the class. The first
step to success in this class is GOING TO ALL THE CLASSES and taking notes.
The student needs to then review the notes on the same day as the class
to ensure comprehension of the material. The student must also do all
the reading and relate it to the class notes. It is also helpful if the
student creates their own examples that incorporate class material. By
doing this the student shows understanding of the material in a concrete
way.
In
my own experiences in L201 I used a variety of study methods to excel
in the class. My first study method was to create potential test questions
after each class. By doing this I solidified the class information by
basically turning my notes into questions. I also used timelines for much
of the material. As I studied various cases and scenarios I found it very
beneficial to use timelines to help me visually see the case as it progressed
based on the element's involved. The last study method I used was to create
a spread sheet for each element of law that involved case law and UCC
law. I would define each element under Case Law (C/L) and Uniform Commercial
Code (UCC). In cases where the elements differed based on the UCC and
C/L I would state the differences. This was very helpful because when
I took exams I knew how each element pertained to the two types of law.

Law L201 B
L201 is different
from most of the classes you have taken so far. The main focus of the
class is not only to understand the legal concepts, but also to be able
to apply them to different cases and scenarios. Thus, in order to succeed
in the class, I would recommend you to always read the chapter before
class, so that you would be already familiar with concepts, then keep
close attention to all the examples in class, and make sure that you understand
how the concepts were applied to the examples by your professor. If you
do not understand why a specific rule was applied in a particular case,
ask your professor and make sure you understand the answer. Try to work
through the problems at the end of the chapters on your own after the
class.
As a college student, you should notice that the times when your teacher
was explaining every single thing to you in class are over, now you are
responsible for learning the material yourself. Go to classes for Q&A,
for clarification, and for illustration of the material after you have
read it, but not for the initial explanation of it. Another important
thing in college is not to wait until the exams week with studying. If
you spend just an hour a day reviewing your class materials, the preparation
for exams will take 50% less time, than it would take otherwise.

To become
a successful student in a math class...
To become a successful student in a math class ... any math class ...
the most important thing that needs to be done is to practice. By doing
this, the material becomes known rather than memorized and forgotten,
and that way when you move on to the next highest level math course, the
material will not be as difficult. I also suggest getting help whether
it be from your professor, or an outside source such as a friend or a
tutor if the material does not come easy to you. Spending a little extra
time understanding the material will only produce positive results in
the course and courses to come.
One thing that I have learned while attending IU is that it is important
to actually read the material that has been presented in class... even
if the topic is not of interest. This is especially important if you cannot
understand your professor. The book usually presents the same information
in a different way, and since all students do not learn the same way the
book might prove to be easier to comprehend. And if you think you already
know the information, read it anyways. It will give you reassurance and
confidence as you go into a test.

Tips
on Succeeding in College:
If you want to do well in college, you need to take your classes seriously.
This means that you should go to class and do assigned reading regularly.
Sometimes it helps to make a schedule of all of your assignments so that
you know what you are responsible for. It is definitely a good idea to
use a planner of some sort. Make sure you are well prepared for exams
by having someone quiz you or by quizzing yourself. When you write papers,
write several drafts and have someone else read over it before you turn
it in. In short, keep ahead on assignments and put considerable time and
effort into the important elements of your classes.
Ambrosia's Tips on Succeeding in M025:
" Although class may be boring or seemingly pointless, go anyway.
You are bound to absorb something while you are there and at least be
informed on the class schedule.
" Make
sure that if you don't understand something, you immediately get help;
concepts build on each other in M025-if you don't understand something,
find help because most likely you will need it later in order to understand
something else. Think of your instructor as a free resource to you. Even
though the teacher-student relationship is impersonal, go to your instructor's
office hours and attempt to get help-they are teaching the class for a
reason! Don't forget about Supplemental Instruction, the Briscoe and Forest
ASC, and personal tutoring if you need help. If you don't understand,
there are plenty of resources available to you.
" Finally,
practice, practice, practice. The only way to get good at math is to do
a lot of it. So, do the homework and the supplemental problems. You'll
be glad you did them come test time.

From
a former student of G107:
Former
students of G107 "Physical Systems of the Environment" tend
to describe the course as difficult. Though at times this may be true,
one thing is for sure. This course is not impossible and can provide you
with an abundance of knowledge about things that go on in your everyday
life. G107 covers topics such as weather patterns and cloud types, which
often prove beneficial to one while watching a local weather forecast.
Though this is not beneficial if one does not understand the basic concepts.
In order to be a successful student in G107 one needs to be willing to
attend lectures regularly, correctly complete and understand labs, and
attend extra help sessions if he or she does not understand the material.
For example, if one does not understand a lab, he or she could attend
Supplemental Instruction sessions for additional guidance. Through following
through with these three things one can successfully complete G107.
In general,
aside from just G107, in order for students to be successful they need
to learn to manage their time and to set priorities. Being that college
is a time where students are here to learn, it is also a time have fun
and meet people. Often, this is difficult, especially with the pressures
of a course load. Through time management skills and prioritization of
activities, one can be successful at both. It is well known that often
those who are the busiest do the best because they are forced to manage
their time. One tip of advice: buy a planner.
