X152: Learning Strategies for Returning Students

  • 12 week class starting at the beginning of the semester
  • 2 credit hours
  • Letter grade
  • Authorization (obtain by calling Returning Student Services, 855-1182)
  • Open to first and second year students who have experienced an interruption of at least two consecutive years in their education
  • In addition to scheduled class time, students will attend six one-half hour sessions approximately every othe week outside of class with a peer mentor (time to be arranged at first class meeting)
The focus of the class is on developing skills and identifing resources that will aid students in becoming effective and efficient college learners while continuing to manage work and family obligations. Students will be able to accomplish this mainly by individually constructing programs for academic and personal development. Topics discussed in this course may include:
  • Identify your learning style
  • Discover the many learning and support resources on campus
  • Learn study strategies that will work for you
  • Develop time and stress management strategies for adult students
  • Identify personal and academic goals and create a plan to achieve them
  • Learn how to manage your college workload
