X155: Critical Reading and Research Seminar

and title (Critical Reading and Research Seminar).
Course Description: This course is specifically designed for first
semester Hudson & Holland scholars. It is designed
to help participants gain a broader understanding of what it means
to "know" and what it means to "learn." This is accomplished through
a process of self reflection and discovery, metacognition, and critical
reading. The course is comprised of three overlapping segments. These
segments are:
Self-reflection and Metacognition
- Learning
Skills and Resource Management
- Critical
Thinking and Reading
Course Objectives:
X155 is designed to help class participants:
- gain
an undestanding and working knowledge of the many resources available
for effective learning,
- engage
in individual and group inquiries into the learning process,
- identify
and nurture leadership skills,
- help
participants meet their own individual goals and objectives,
- explore
the unique perspective of being a minority student at a predominately
white institution of higher learning.
