..."How do I apply all the new study strategies I have been introduced to in the workshops to my own courses?"

..."Can I learn how to effectively handle all the new situations that I will encounter in starting a college career?"

..."I find that I get physically sick often and miss a lot of classes. Could this have anything to do with my academic stress?"

This course is for students of all levels of ability who want help with reducing stress experienced at college. Activities are designed to assist students with integrating learning skills and stress management for a more productive and successful academi c experience

This complementary learning experience requires:

  • complete two learning and study strategies inventories.
  • attendance at 11 out of 14 one-hour, weekly workshops sponsored by the Student Academic Center on Wednesday night through out the semester.
  • attendance at 13 individual conferences (time to be arranged) with small learning groups and/or individually with a Honors undergraduate peer mentor (mentor also attends all the workshops and is closely supervised by the SAC Outreach and Service Coordinator). At these meetings students will focus on adapting learning strategies they have been exposed to in the workshops to the academic demands of their own courses.
Not only will students learn more about themselves as learners and how to handle academic stressors, but they will be encouraged to change unproductive behaviors.
